Check-in for my scheduled 9:30 appointment took much too long. There were no Service Advisors in the check-in area, and it was only after 10 minutes of waiting that the Cashier paged them over the intercom for me. After confirming I needed the PA inspection and emissions, plus an oil change done, I left my cell # with the Advisor (Jim) and returned home. After 5 hours with no update, I called the Dealership at 2:45 for a status. I was told there was an issue with the exhaust system, and that they were waiting for someone to confirm exactly what the issue was before the car would be ready for pickup. After waiting for another hour with no further update - and knowing the Service Center closed at 4:00PM, at 3:45 I went back to the dealership having no idea the status of my vehicle (Would I even be able to take it home?) Ultimately, I was told my car passed emissions but failed inspection due to a problem with the exhaust system that would cost about $1,000 to fix, and I that could probably get it done at Meineke for much less. What was the exact nature of the problem with the exhaust system? I have no idea. Bottom line, this was the worst automobile service experience Ive had in 40 years of car ownership, and certainly not what Ive come to expect from NorthStar. From beginning to end there was a complete lack of communication and an absence of any effort to meet modest customer expectations (When do you think my car might be ready?).
